Code Enforcement is part of the City of Tipton’s Planning and Zoning Department and helps ensure that city codes and zoning regulations are followed.
Keeping our community safe, attractive, and well‑maintained is a top priority for the city. Code violations can affect neighborhood property values, public safety, and the overall look and feel of Tipton. By working together through voluntary compliance, cooperation, personal responsibility, and community pride, many code issues can be resolved before they become problems. These shared efforts help make the City of Tipton a great place to live, work, and visit.
- Once a complaint is received, the Code Enforcement Officer will make every effort to investigate the complaint within 3 business days. This will be based on staff availability and the volume of complaints.
- If a violation is present, Code Enforcement will contact the listed property owner or occupant with a courtesy letter. If the Code Enforcement Officer has additional contact information, such as a phone number or email address, they may contact the responsible party by phone, email, or in person.
- The Code Enforcement Officer will inform the responsible party of a timeline to correct the violation (usually 10 days) without any further penalty. This timeline is based on the ordinance associated with the violation.
- While most property owners comply after the first notification, those who do not will receive additional notices or citations, including fines and legal action. It is encouraged that any responsible party with questions, contact the City of Tipton Planning Department (Code Enforcement). Our goal is compliance, and we will work with all members of the community to resolve any violations.
- Ongoing, recurring, or safety violations may result in immediate action, including stop-work orders, ticketing, or other measures.
- You may report a violation anonymously; however, if you would like the Code Enforcement Officer to contact you regarding the resolution or action of a violation, you must leave an email address or phone number.
All complaints and violations are handled professionally and confidentially.
